Tools and Training

Financial Reporting is pleased to provide a number of helpful tools that can be utilized by financial managers at GW.

  • Chart of Accounts: A handy, interactive guide detailing essential information about the segments of our accounting string

  • Key Reports for Financial Management: A guide to the most frequently used accounting reports including budget reports, general ledger account detail, and award-project reports

  • Functional Expenses Presentation (PPT): GW Finance Directors should review this to learn about expenses based on the purpose for which the expense is incurred (e.g., Instruction, Student Aid) rather than the type of expense (e.g., Salary, Supplies)

  • Functional Footnote Chart (XLS): A useful chart that defines major functional categories with corresponding information regarding GW’s use of each category

  • Account Reconciliation and Analyses Presentation (PPT): A set of slides describing required procedures and tips for preparing account reconciliations. Account Reconciliations occur to verify the General Ledger account balance to a third party document (i.e., a bank statement or insurance invoice) and/or to adjust entries for accuracy. (Please note: the content in these slides may be outdated.)

  • Foreign Gifts and Contracts Required Information (PDF): A memo describing procedures that are required upon receipt of a foreign gift or contract

  • Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT): All GW disbursement forms and information required for EFT can be found on the GW Accounts Payable website
